I do not agree with everything Valerie Tarico says, especially that we cannot fight the Supreme Court. The recent release on the ROE VS WADE revisitation is NOT final yet. It can still be short-circuited. The reason I am reblogging her post is that there is some possibly very important information here for women and their male partners. I am old, so maybe most young women know this stuff, but since it is new to me, maybe it is new to someone else too. Please feel free to bookmark this post, as it may become necessary to know, if not for yourself, then for someone you love.
My thought is for concerned women all over North America, and anywhere else, if your rights are being threatened: Go on GENERAL STRIKE. Women did it in the 70s. All over the US, from Alaska to Florida, from Hawaii to Rhode Island, women refused to do housework, cook, take care of children, HAVE SEX, as well as other things, and the men relented quite quickly. I do not remember the cause then, but this stealing of WOMEN’S RIGHTS is certainly worth fighting against IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE! Women! Withdraw your services. Please, STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. YOUR MOTHERS AND GRANDMOTHERS FOUGHT TO GET THEM FOR YOU. FIGHT NOW FOR YOUR DAUGHTERS AND GRANDDAUGHTERS! And great-great-great-great-greats…

Mate! Can you not see that the very notion of women refusing to do housework and have sex is grossly sexist in itself, not to mention antiquated? We don’t live in a world any longer in which housework is implied to be the duty of a woman, and we certainly don’t live in a world where sex is something for women to give and for men to take!!

Never said it was a duty or anything else. I look around me, and I am still seeing 90% of partnerships where women are still the main cooks, the main housekeepers, and certainly the main childbearers and childrearers. No they don’t have to do some of these things, But it still seems they do them. And why? Because their mothers, even the liberated ones, like to teach their daughters how to cook, and how to clean, wnile they teach their sons to take out the garbage. That is often how they were brought up, so that is how they bring up their kids. I cannot understand this, but I witness it all the time. Having had no children of my own, maybe I would have done exactly the same thing myself. I’ll never know. The thing is, if women went on general strike, a lot of things would not get done, and men would show their real sexist traits by giving in.
Am I a sexist for encouraging women to use the tools at their disposal, for asking women to show their strengths, and their power? If that is sexism I accept the label, however unintentional. Meanwhile, were they to go on strike, I would be out there adding my voice to theirs!

Rawgod, I find it to be distasteful as a talking point, however, abortion should be a private medical matter, not something for the state or federal governments to be involved in.

On that we agree. It is no one’s business but the potential mother, her gynecologist, her midwife or doula, and any social workwr or mental health worker who might be involved.

Rawgod, I have no issue with abortion being legal per se. I just believe that people who want them should bear the costs, not shifting that cost to the taxpayers.

It is a medical procedure, just like any other. If you have public health care, as we do in Canada, then the procedure should be free, unless you do not want to wait your turn. If you want to go to a private clinic, then yes, you should have to pay for it.
