The following is a comment (slightly altered) I just sent to a woman who wants to see Roe vs Wade repealed. She thinks women should not have a choice to abort a fetus, because to her, the (potential) life of a fetus is more important than the life of the woman carrying that fetus. We were carrying on a written conversation when I had a kind of epiphany. I had heard people saying RvW is more important than just the right to choose. It has deeper implications. Then, in an instant, I saw what repealing RvW really meant. Here is my response:
Please allow me to add, I appreciate that without women there would be no human race. Women are the mothers of all. But that does not mean women are “Only Mothers!” Women have lives too, and motherhood as birthers of children is secondary! Until a woman is ready to become a mother, mentally, spiritually, maturely, and financially, there is no reason to force them to become mothers! Especially not by an accident of sexual congress.
Once upon a time there was no or little choice. A woman got pregnant, and if the fetus survived to birth, that was it. Women were not considered persons, they were treated as cows.
That time is gone. Thankfully. Women are now persons, and losing Roe vs Wade will turn them back into cows. Maybe you want to be a cow, I have no idea. But most women do not!
I do not think you realize how important RvW is to womanhood as a whole. Women had to fight to become persons, to be able to take their place in the world of men — economy, politics, careers, etc. For the first 6 million years of hominids, and about 300,000 years of what we now call humans, women were cows. Is that what you really want? Women have always been persons, But men held them down and refused to let them participate in real life. It has only been in the last 100 years, ONE HUNDRED YEARS OUT OF OVER 6 MILLION YEARS, that women have been free to be active in real life. Men used them, they beat them, they raped them, and they treated them like cows! Do you really want to go back to that life? Because taking away RvW IS THE FIRST STEP IN THAT JOURNEY!
I am a man. I do not want women to be cows. I want women to be persons. I want women to be partners in life. I know there are a lot of men who do not want this. They want women to be subservient, housekeepers, cooks, to be mothers, and childraisers and sex objects. They do not want women to be people. And you are going to lose personhood if you force women to become cows again! HAVING CHOICE MAKES YOU A PERSON! Please, do not be a party to giving this away. Do not make the women who fought for personhood into failures. You may think RvW is about having babies, IT IS NOT. It is about MEN TAKING BACK POWER! And any woman who fights to repeal RvW is a traitor to her gender.
Do you really want to be a traitor to your gender? I certainly hope not!
No, I am not feeling good this morning, and my mind is a little addled, but something you said opened my eyes to a larger Truth. Women are people! Do not give that away!
There may be some generalizations made in the above rant, some inaccuracies, but I refuse to change most of them. My emotions were real, and I hope they came through clearly. Please do not dwell on what I may have gotten wrong, or inaccurate, or imprecise. Please realize, I am trying to help save the whole damn world of humans! I care about all humans… Especially the female half!

We women have been ranting endlessly since the draft of the Supreme Court decision that will almost certainly become final next month reversing the long-standing Roe v Wade was leaked. I’ve done my share of ranting, and I ain’t done yet! But when a man is as passionate on the issue as we women are, I sit up and take notice! Thank you for your post. I certainly wouldn’t want to go back to the era of no rights to choose of whether I wanted child or not. Especially if I got raped.

No, I don’t. First relationship abusive. Second relationship a bit rubbish.
Third, longest I been in but no progress to any kind of commitment to move in together, so I split up with him. He wanted to remain friends, but he couldn’t even do that. Now it this stage, I was quite surprised he couldn’t do that. But a few years later, I discovered he had been jailed for child abuse. This child came forward when she was 18 and this child I seen at times when with him. So after discovering that and how it raked up old wounds for me, let alone a shocking act that I never thought he would do, I would never go out with anyone again.
I have a good male friend. But it will never be more than that with him, or anyone. I am my own person.

There are over 30 different forms of birth control available to women.
Killing the baby, up until the end of the third trimester I might add, is almost always avoidable.
To be honest, however, the trad cons have chosen the wrong bill to go after. Instead, they should make mandatory paternity testing a part of writing the father’s name on the birth certificate – a father cannot be named on a birth certificate unless a paternity test confirms it.
Abortion is the ultimate form of hypergamy – it’s a failsafe for women’s poor sexual choices.

The only time an abortion is performed in the third trimester is to save the mother’s life, and it isn’t an abortion at that … if the baby can survive, everything is done to ensure that it does so. Don’t be an insufferable male chauvinist by referring to “women’s” poor sexual choices … quite often it is the case that women are abused, and raped by men. And under any circumstances, it takes two to tango, or at least to cause a pregnancy. Women don’t deserve all the blame.

So you wnt to make women back into cows, but you want to onow who the bulls are? Are you going to punish the bulls? Cut off their balls? I see no othrr teason for knowing who the paternal parties are. Most of the women will not want them back in their lives, in any capacity, nor do the bulls what go be in the cow’s ‘life.
Meanwhile, whiie women may have 31 options in birth control, the man hax the best one–GET A FUCKING VASECTOMY!
