Christmas Colin Wicking The Season Xmas

MY IDEA OF CELEBRATING XMAS

I Knew I Wasn’t Alone

My thanks to Colin Wicking.

My apologies to those who love this season. You might be better off not reading this one.

A man with a lot of strange experiences in my life. Haven't traveled that much per se, but have lived in a lot of different areas. English is the only language I have mastered, and the older I get, the more of it I lose. Seniorhood gives me more time to self-reflect, but since time seems to go much faster, it feels like I don't have as much time for living as my younger selves did. I believe in spiritual atheism and responsible anarchy. These do not have to be oxymorons. Imagination is an incredible tool. I can imagine a lot of things.

People are mysteries. No one knows for sure what goes on in another person’s mind. Because just when you think you know someone, you discover their favourite pizza toppings are pineapple and dill pickle coins — on the same pizza!

What goes on in someone else’s mind is none of my business unless that person decides to let me in on it. Otherwise, I don’t really care. My friend is my friend; if she doesn’t like Christmas, that’s her right; our friendship isn’t based on whether we like the same holidays or foods or clothes or really anything at all. Well, except the Buffalo Bills. LOL

No, friendship should overlook things like that — but since Trump took office more friendships have ended over politics than all other reasons combined. I doubt even I could be friends with a MAGAt! And I can tolerste a hekkuva lot of things…
Cheering for Buffslo might mske me think twice though. 😇

I think the holiday hype is overdone, the commercialism is disgusting, but I still enjoy some parts of the season. I don’t mind ‘bah humbug’ sort of ‘toons about it … most are spot on. I just don’t find Colin Wicking as funny as you do, I guess.

His sehse of humour sometimrs meshes totally with mine, zs if he is in my head. Other times, he does nothing for me. I like him for the times we agree. The rest of the time pretty “meh!”

Hi Rawgod. This year the cartoon fits Ron and me. Normally Ron loves to set up his Christmas tree with all the ornaments collected over the years, some of them unique and valuable or very fragile. We also set up decorations outside, which is what I enjoy. The lights and such are what makes the holiday nice for me. But last year hurricane Ian removed the roof on parts of our home, ripped the front room of our home wide open taking out walls and roof, and several sheds. One of the sheds that went with the wind was the one that held Ron’s tree and all his special tree decorations along with the rest of our Christmas stuff. What was left of his favorite ornaments were shattered bits all over our back year and also our neighbors. Just a few months ago, about after a year from Ian removing it and us having to keep re-tarping our roof, the new very expensive AMS aluminum roof was installed. While we had rebuilt the exterior walls, we did not do the inside until the new roof. Just under two weeks ago we got the front room, that goes all across the front of our home, refinished with a new glass panned door and rebuilt interior walls.

So when I asked Ron if he wanted to buy a new Christmas tree along with decorations his response was very negative for my normally Christmas loving spouse. He said he wanted to take this Christmas off, pretend it was not happening, and just wait for it to go away. I agreed we were both far too stressed and just needed to slow things down and decompress for a while.

So I completely agree with the cartoon this year. Hugs. Scottie

Sorry to hear what Ian did to you, Ron, and your home. I really feel bad for anyone living in hurricane alley, It’s no use trying to create anything permanent because eventually it will get blown down, or away. Our biggest weather threat where we are is a blizzard, which seldom destroys anything. Wildfires are our biggest fear because like hurricanes they take little time to burn a lifetime worth of stuff. But reaĺly my partner and I have little that means anything to us. As long as we and the cats can get away alive that is all that matters. We are not materialists in most ways.
I guess hurricane insurance costs a fortune down there?

Hi Rawgod. Older places like ours due to location you can not get insurance coverage for, and if you do, they either won’t pay out and the max they will pay is a few thousand based on the prorating of the age of the place and location. Plus people who have insurance get the raw end of the deal. FEMA can not help them where if you don’t have insurance FEMA provides assistance right away. Insurance companies fight to pay out, and FEMA can’t help if you have insurance. It would be great if we could get personal inside the home stuff covered like TVs and computer stuff, but that is available only to renters and again not in our location. Hugs. Scottie
