GINNY 4 — BUCKED SHINS

Hi, friends and Ginny fans. It is with sadness I sit down to write this post. In yesterday’s race, the 2nd race of Ginny’s career, she bucked her shins (kicked her back legs with her front feet while wearing horse shoes, injuring herself, and causing a lot of pain. Time, and anti-inflamatory drugs, are the best cure, we are told, so, in the parlance of professional sports, Ginny has been put on the Injury List. She will not race again till September, if all goes well. If other complications arise, it might be 2023 before she returns to the track. Only time will tell.

If the attached video works properly, you will be able to watch her race, for whatever it might be worth. The incident happens off-screen, and if you were able to see when she kicks herself, she makes no fuss. All that I can see is her stride shortens, and she loses contact with the group and steadily loses ground thereafter. Yes, she lost, beaten by 12-1/2 lengths behind the winner, but considering the circumstances, this race does not show her true ability. So, please wish her a good recovery, and we hope this Fall she will be back, healthy and better than ever, for the summer months will help to put on more muscle and more weight. She is still young, and still growing. She will get through this.

Her race is the first race. It ends at about the 6 minute mark.

A man with a lot of strange experiences in my life. Haven't traveled that much per se, but have lived in a lot of different areas. English is the only language I have mastered, and the older I get, the more of it I lose. Seniorhood gives me more time to self-reflect, but since time seems to go much faster, it feels like I don't have as much time for living as my younger selves did. I believe in spiritual atheism and responsible anarchy. These do not have to be oxymorons. Imagination is an incredible tool. I can imagine a lot of things.

It was likely to happen. Statistics say it happens to over 70% of race horses, so we knew it could happen. She is missing over half her racing season, but we have to be patient. Thanks for the “Poor Baby.”

Oh how very sad!!! This breaks my heart, for she was off to such a great start last week, coming in 2nd. Perhaps you were right and more time in between races would have been better. Please give her a hug from me when next you see her, and let her know I’m hoping for a speedy recovery. LuL

She is on vacation for at leadt 30 dsys. By that time the Spring meet in Ethbridge will be over. She wss going to go to either Edmonton or Grsnde Prairie for the summer, but now that would just be a waste of money. She will go back into training late July or early August, and hopefully be ready for the Fall meet starting in September back in Lethbridge. If she heals properly. Our fingers are crossed. Thanks for the hugs.
